Just a little flick...
The one question I get asked most from clients is how to do a winged liner. I am fairly certain it is the most difficult technique to get down. I am still working at it, but I have definitely progressed from "wow, that is a horrible version of what a winged liner should look like" to "nice, that looks pretty good."
The old phrase practice makes perfect applies to this technique like no other. Don't give up...just keep practicing and it will get easier. I promise. Anyhow, I decided do a pictorial in the hopes that it would help a couple of you out. I am doing a pretty simple makeup with a strong winged liner. So let's get started...
In this pictorial I already have a sheer foundation on and my eye brows lightly filled in. I start off by priming my eye. In this pictorial I used MAC's Paint Pot in Soft Ochre. This is a yellow beige shade and works really well when you are doing neutral eye.
Next I grabbed my Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. I start off using a fluffy blending brush and apply Naked2 in the outer corner of my eye using windshield wiping motion to blend into my crease.
Drag that across your eye and stop at the very corner. Next take the brush and LIGHTLY draw a short line from your lower lash line towards the end of your eyebrow, like this...
I also lined my lower water line with a flesh toned pencil. I used Rimmell Scandal Eyes Liner in Nude. This helps open up the eye. Lastly I applied a coat of mascara on the top and bottom lashes. I also applied some false lashes for a more dramatic look. Here is the finished look.
As I said before this is a look that requires practice. So if you don't have the perfect flick (which I am far from) don't give up. It will get better each and every time you do it!! I hope that this helped and I look forward to doing more pictorials! If you have something in particular you would like to see please let me know.

Next I applied used the darker shade, Faint and did the same blending motion further down on outer corner. This time I used small circular motions blending it up into the first shade. I also took Faint and ran that along my lower lash line connecting the upper & lower lash on the outer corner. I then took two of the lighter shades, Venus & Foxy and blended that on my brow bone for a highlight. You should end up with something like this...
Here comes the tricky part! The liner!!! For this look I am using NYC Liquid Eyeliner in Black. This is a drugstore brand and retails for a whopping $2.99. Can't beat it. It does take a few seconds to dry to keep your head tipped back so it doesn't transfer onto your upper lid.
First take the brush and hold it parallel to the eye like this...
Drag that across your eye and stop at the very corner. Next take the brush and LIGHTLY draw a short line from your lower lash line towards the end of your eyebrow, like this...
Now turn the brush the opposite way and draw a line from the end of the "flick" back towards the outer corner of your eye....
Now fill in the triangle. At this point you can go back and fix any bumps you may have. If you have some lines that you are not happy with. Grab a fine tipped q-tip and with a little bit of makeup remover clean up your edges. When wearing a strong liner like this I typically line my upper water line so that it looks like one concise line. For this look I used Anastasia Beverly Hills Covet Liner.
